Three-Month Coding Interview Study Plan

This plan is for the person who started early. Three months is enough time to do the whole course properly: every pattern, every core problem, all 30 extra practice problems, and several mock interviews once the material is covered, all at a pace that does not require giving up your evenings entirely.

If three months is more time than you have, the one-month plan covers the same ten patterns without the extras, at a faster pace. If your interview is days away rather than months, the one-week plan triages down to the four highest-yield patterns. You can also build a version of this tuned to your exact date and hours at /plan.

The math: about 13 weeks at 5 hours a week

The estimates assume a lesson takes about 40 minutes, an easy problem about 25, a medium about 40, and a hard about 55, plus a 15-minute practice quiz round most weeks. All ten lessons, every core problem, and all 30 extra problems add up to a bit over 54 hours of content. At roughly 5 hours a week, that fills about ten weeks, which leaves the last few weeks of the three months free for mock interviews once the patterns themselves are done.

Month one: the first four patterns, extras included

Week 1. The Start Here and Patterns Pyramid readings, then all of Two Pointers, core problems and extras both. About 6 hours 30 minutes, the longest week in the plan.

Week 2. All of Sliding Window. About 5 hours 35 minutes.

Week 3. All of Intervals. About 5 hours 35 minutes.

Week 4. All of Linked List Manipulation. About 6 hours.

Month two: the middle four patterns

Week 5. All of Modified Binary Search. About 6 hours.

Week 6. All of Tree Breadth First Search. About 5 hours 15 minutes.

Week 7. All of Graph Breadth First Search. About 5 hours, the lightest week.

Week 8. All of Graph Depth First Search. About 5 hours 35 minutes.

Month three: the last two patterns, then mocks

Week 9. All of Backtracking. About 5 hours 50 minutes.

Week 10. All of Dynamic Programming, the last pattern in the syllabus. About 5 hours 20 minutes.

Weeks 11 through 13. With every pattern covered, these final weeks are for mock interviews and review: run a mock (45 min) most weeks, retake the practice quiz to see what has faded, and revisit whichever problems still feel shaky. There is nothing new to learn here, just reps.

Dates and hours differ for everyone. Build your own plan.

The planner leaves room for life getting in the way, so at the same hours it may trim a bit more than this page. If you want everything in, give it an hour or two more per week.
